Joshua Harrison: Bad For Love, Good For Techno – BMR06

Detroit-based producer & master DJ Joshua Harrison is back on Beretta Red with his second EP titled, ‘Bad For Love, Good For Techno.’ Josh delivers two songs here that exemplify the melancholy, yet DETERMINED spirit of a true aritst.

‘Otseketa’ is the perfect opener for any DJ looking to create a deep, sexy Detroit groove for the evening’s festivities. The track begins with a subtle swell that transforms into a monster distorted atmospheric pad that envelops the listeners audible sense. The pad begins to pulse like a syncopated rhythm as the warmth of the 909 kickdrum breaks in, followed by a bassline that’s sure to get females moving in every direction possible. Josh proceeds to sprinkle the body of the song with subtle percussion, sizzlin’ cymbals, and a memoriable rhodes hook that club-goers will remember after leaving the dancefloor the next morning. This is a true future classic in every sense of the word.

Harrison wastes no time with his next tune, ‘St. Claire’ Josh dives right in, head first, with a standard ‘boom tsk boom tsk’ DJ-Friendly introduction accompanied with plenty of dubbed out, space echo goodness. But things quickly take a sharp turn when the gigantic lurking monster bassline comes in perfectly on cue. Mr. dirty bassline is quickly proceeded by the rhythmically-infused, funky-filtered juno-esque stabs. Josh then wraps all the elements up nicely with a super crescendo breakdown that will completely satisfy any club-goer with good taste, and a ear for super party jams!
